What a rule does to the matched field.

Replace/Regex values support {{namespace.path}} template references, rendered per request via plain Template::render (never $var interpolation — these fields have no legacy $ history). Regex values may also carry $1-style capture references: render never touches $ syntax, so a capture reference in the configured value survives rendering byte-identical and is resolved afterwards by the regex engine itself.

Remove

Delete the field entirely.

Replace(Template)

Overwrite the field with a fixed (templated) value.

Regex

Rewrite the first regex match inside a string value (mirrors APISIX’s ngx.re.sub, which substitutes only the first occurrence). value is rendered before being handed to the regex engine, which then resolves any $1-style capture references itself.
